Yet Siem Car Carriers needs to press on towards ever lower emissions and higher efficiency.
In June 2024, the upgraded Siem Curie left the drydock and re-entered service. We were able film her while in drydock during two of the major eco-friendly exterior upgrades she received.
A ducktail was fitted to the stern of the vessel. The basic idea of this addition is to lengthen the effective waterline, thus improving flow characteristics, reducing the overall fuel consumption.
She also had new silicone antifouling paint applied for the first time, which has the ability to minimize hull frictional resistance by having the smoothest service out-of-dock, and to remain in that way for years to come.
Early data shows that the results are likely to exceed expectations, with over 5% reduction in emissions for the rest of the life of the two ships!
